PETG is most often the material of choice for clear, rigid medical packaging. APET is a distant second because, in its current form, it has several properties that are inferior to PETG. Three patent applications have been filed on novel articles, methods and devices to improve the properties of APET in rigid medical packaging, resulting in a package with superior properties, including the newly acquired ability to withstand steam sterilization. Utilizing this technology will allow the medical packaging industry to move from PETG (RIC #7) to APET (RIC #1) with a more durable product that is more easily recycled, aligning with global sustainability goals. Steam sterilization is not a required end-point for this technology. This product performs as well as, and in some instances, better than either PETG or APET (today's version of APET offerings) in ETO, gamma, and other sterilization processes.
